The primeval forest under glass
Zoo-Aquarium Berlin
Even after ninety years the most significant show aquarium in Germany is still a Mecca of biodiversity and history for aquarium and terrarium fans.
Extent
Since it opened its doors for the very first time the three storeys of Zoo-Aquarium have been presenting a section through the classes of fish, lower animals, reptiles, amphibians, and articulates around its heart, the Crocodile Hall, at that time the world’s first walk-in animal enclosure for visitors.
Number of animals and species
With the largest number of species of its kind this building provides terrariums and aquariums for over 9,000 animals of almost 800 species. Today everyone talks about biodiversity. Here at Zoo-Aquarium you can experience it.
Forever evolving
Complex renovations, improvements, and additions like the new shark tank, the five expanded theme landscape basins, and the former fresh water paddlefish enclosure converted into a naturalistic saltwater basin patrolled by rays and mackerel all contribute towards optimising state-of-the-art animal upkeep and opening up to visitors new worlds of adventure.
Highlights and focal points
Other divisions too underwent further development in addition to our fish theme highlights like the reef basin with blacktip sharks and the breeding environment for several jellyfish species and other lower animals, where Zoo-Aquarium has performed pioneering work. Green iguana romp in a terrarium oasis covering a sensational forty six square metres. Our precious tuataras were provided with a large-scale terrarium whose cooling installations provide the conditions they need for their upkeep.
Visitors, visitors, visitors …
The entrance to Zoo-Aquarium is on Budapester Strasse on the edge of Zoo Berlin where you can also visit both together.
